Dear Ricardo: Two New Habits Improved My Life
Inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s letters in Dear Theo, I write letters to my future self about everyday life and events to be more grateful and mindful.

Dear Ricardo,
As you are aware, I’ve been on a kick of self-improvement lately. I have found, among other things, that two recent decisions affected my daily positivity the most. I no longer settle for wearing bad underwear, and I park farther away in parking lots.
Until two weeks ago, I prescribed to the philosophy that the more clothing items I own, the less I need to do laundry (Mom can attest). I still had underwear from seven years ago. Keeping them saved me money and time, I thought. However, I found myself playing favorites. I looked forward to wearing them and strategically wore them on weekends or days I needed an extra boost. See, when I put them on in the morning, it makes me feel good; I know I will have a fantastic day. Why not have that feeling every day? Thus, I bought more and now have eight pairs that make me feel spectacular. Everyday has been amazing since.
Second, I started parking farther away in parking lots. It’s not because I’m worried about others bumping or denting my car (makes me laugh thinking that would be a reason). I realized how foolish it is to keep circling the lot waiting for a close spot to open up. Parking seems so trivial but it’s a real thing! Wander a Costco parking lot and see for yourself. I don’t need that in my life; parking no longer causes angst or stress. I am liberated from the aggression and pettiness. Not only do I avoid the chaos, but I get extra exercise! Good health is something to be thankful for. I’ll leave the spots for others.
I can’t wait to find more ways to make our life better! 🙂
Do you have any small habits that improved your life?
I’m definitely going to park farther away from now on! Great point….deleting stress from life in such an easy way! Thanks for the tip!
